Why it costs less than you think

Most of what makes a software project expensive is not the code. It is the wrong turns, the rebuilt work, and the decisions nobody knew were decisions until they cost something. Two decades of shipping systems is mainly two decades of learning where those are — and of designing for two people at once: the one using the system every day, and the one who has to change it five years from now.

We have built this before

Very little of a business system is genuinely new. Having solved the same problem in another industry means starting from a working answer instead of a blank page.

Estimates that hold up

An estimate is only as good as the surprises it accounts for. Ours come from having been surprised already, which is why they tend to survive contact with the work.

Knowing what to leave out

Half of keeping a project affordable is recognizing the features that will not earn their keep, and saying so before they are built rather than after.

Built to be changed

Rules and regulations move, and our systems tend to run for years. Adapting them is planned for from the start rather than bolted on when a deadline arrives.

Documented, not just delivered

The code is documented where it is written, and every solution ships with a user's manual and a technical operations manual — so nobody has to reverse-engineer it later.

AI in our hands, not in charge

We use AI the way we use any tool that saves time — under direction, with the architecture, the decisions and the review still ours. It makes the build faster and the cost lower. It does not decide what gets built.

Community Action Hub

Client build · in production

One portal for every program an agency runs, from intake to the points store.

Community assistance work runs on details: who is enrolled in which program, what was issued, and who approved it. The Hub puts case management, program administration and a points-based storefront in one place — staff see only the programs they are assigned to, and every change leaves a record.

Engineering highlights

  • One portal, many programs. Access is granted per program rather than per role alone, so several community programs share a single system without one program's staff ever seeing another's clients.
  • Case management with the paper trail an audit asks for — notes, household and address changes, redemptions, and a record of who changed what and when.
  • An incentive-point program the administrators configure themselves: program groups, product categories and point-to-dollar rates drive the storefront without a developer in the loop.
  • Reporting where the work happens — point balances, bonus-point usage, category distribution and monthly in-kind summaries — instead of a month-end scramble in a spreadsheet.
  • Screens update live as colleagues work, so two staff on the same household are not quietly overwriting each other.
  • Standard SQL Server underneath, with reporting kept separate from day-to-day operations so one can grow without slowing the other.

Pathways

CoderCraft product · in development

Photograph a teardown, talk through it, and get the reassembly documentation back.

Nobody stops in the middle of a teardown to write documentation, so the knowledge stays in one person's head. Pathways captures it as the work happens: photograph each step, tag it, say out loud what you did — and get back a sequenced, searchable record that will also answer questions from the equipment's own manual.

Engineering highlights

  • Capture on phone, review on the desktop or browser — one product with three front doors, built to maximize efficiency and productivity.
  • Color themes are built in, so each person sets the look they prefer — which is why the three screenshots above do not resemble one another. Same product, three themes.
  • Steps nest and stay in order, so a disassembly plays back exactly as it was performed and reverses cleanly when it is time to put the machine back together.
  • Photos sequence by when they were taken rather than when they were uploaded, so a device that syncs late does not scramble the story.
  • Every change reaches every device the same way: an upload, an annotation or a background job all travel one sync path, so nobody is working from a stale copy.
  • Talk instead of type. Spoken notes are transcribed and summarized automatically, and the processing happens out of band so capture never waits on it.
  • Ask the manual: equipment manuals are indexed by section and page, parts are pulled into a catalog, and questions are answered from the manual's own text rather than invented.
  • Covered by automated tests and full browser run-throughs, each one added after a real defect slipped past the ones already there.

A family of tools for businesses that depend on their own website. TailorAnalytics shows what visitors actually click; TailorTest drives the site in a real browser on a schedule to prove the critical paths still work; TailorAudit scores every page for SEO, accessibility and performance; TailorWatch keeps an eye on uptime, response times and expiring certificates. One platform underneath, so every tool works the same way and reports into the same place.

Engineering highlights

  • Each customer's data is sealed off from the signed-in user rather than from anything a caller passes along, and the system stops rather than guessing if that boundary is ever missing — the isolation that multi-customer software lives or dies on.
  • Nothing internal is exposed in a link or a payload. Outside identifiers are random, so there is no sequence to walk and nothing to guess at.
  • Data access goes straight to SQL with no ORM in between, over a shared layer that retries transient cloud faults and paces connections, so a busy hour slows down gracefully instead of timing out.
  • Visitor traffic is accepted first and processed after, so a spike on the customer's site never turns into a spike in errors.
  • The testing and analytics products share one tagging standard, with a build check that fails if the two ever drift apart.
  • Assistants built on plain REST with automatic failover between models, and the model named in configuration — so a provider retiring a model is a settings change rather than a release.
  • Scheduling that non-developers can drive: a typed catalog of jobs and per-feature schedules on one shared picker, instead of a support ticket for every timing change.
  • Onboarding starts with a measurement, not a questionnaire — an automated crawl of a new customer's site shows exactly what could be tracked before anyone commits.
